History

Larry McDaniel, an electrician with dozens of years of experience as a commercial and residential electrician in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C, founded VarcoMac Electrical Construction Co. in 1983. He and a small group of handpicked professionals launched the firm on the premise that quality, fair pricing, and the commitment to do whatever it takes to satisfy the client, would generate steady work.

Under the leadership of company president Sonia Vargas since 1991, VarcoMac has grown to become one of the region's leading electrical contractors with over 100 electricians in the field and a growing list of satisfied clients. The firm has added a succession of talented managers, foremen and electricians who share a commitment to hard work and customer service.

Over the past 20 years, most of VarcoMac's growth has come from repeat work for satisfied clients and referrals. Many of the firm's client relationships started with a single small project where they proved their value, and then evolved into long term, full-service engagements. As VarcoMac grew, additional services were added to respond to the needs of clients and the marketplace in general.

Today, the firm is active in the construction industry -- both through its construction projects and participation with industry trade associations. Sonia Vargas is on the Board of Directors of the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), is chairwoman of the Labor Management Cooperation Committee of Local 26 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and is active in several other trade and professional organizations.
