Client: University of Maryland
Architect: Heery International
Estimated Completion Date: 2009
Cost of Project: $5,000,000 – 10,000,000
Job Description:

VarcoMac is proud to be a part of the expansion and renovation of Tyser Tower. The work will add an additional 66,000 square feet to the existing structure. VarcoMac will work alongside other contractors to build the five story tower, which will include 64 luxury suites, a full-service kitchen, television and radio booths, a lounge in the press box, new shopping areas, a new scoreboard, and additional seating for stadium-goers. Visit GreatExpectationsAthletics.com for more information and photos of the future Tyser Tower.

What’s Going On Now?:

Soon you’ll be able to see for yourself, thanks to a webcam provided by Clark Construction. As of March, 2008, the old Tyser Tower still stands. Metal framework for the side additions is being assembled piece by piece with the help of a sky crane. VarcoMac is working on the buried electrical lines (called a duct bank) that supply power to the stadium. As soon as the framework is set and the concrete is poured, the real work for VarcoMac will begin. Then it will be time to install power distribution equipment, conduit and wire. The corresponding photos show the sky crane and the east end of Tyser Tower and the duct bank that VarcoMac has been working on. Check back often to track the progress of this exciting project!
