Position Overview
VarcoMac is seeking a highly motivated BIM Coordinator to support our Electrical Construction team. This role is responsible for driving the accuracy, constructability, and efficiency of electrical systems on medium to large-scale projects through advanced BIM coordination and modeling. The BIM Coordinator will play a critical role in ensuring project success by translating design intent into coordinated, buildable models and installation documents.

The BIM Coordinator will collaborate closely with the BIM Manager, General Foreman, project teams, and client stakeholders, serving as a key contributor to coordination efforts and technical execution. This role is accountable for producing high-quality 3D models, resolving clashes, maintaining coordination schedules, and delivering field-ready installation drawings. This position requires close coordination with internal teams, external contractors, and clients to ensure seamless project delivery and successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Partner with internal project teams and clients to understand coordination requirements, design intent, and project expectations.
    • Provide technical insight and recommendations to improve constructability and coordination outcomes.
    • Serve as a key point of contact for BIM-related coordination, ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
  • Design, Technical, or Operational Execution
    • Develop and maintain detailed 3D electrical models using Revit based on contract drawings, specifications, and field input.
    • Perform clash detection and coordination using Navisworks to proactively identify and resolve conflicts.
    • Produce accurate installation drawings and fabrication-ready documentation based on coordinated models.
    • Ensure all models and documentation align with project requirements, codes, and industry standards, including NEC.
  • Project & Cross Discipline Coordination
    • Coordinate with MEP trades, design teams, and field personnel to integrate electrical systems into the overall project model.
    • Interface with contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders throughout coordination and construction phases.
    • Maintain coordination schedules and provide regular updates to project teams to ensure timely project delivery.
    • Support the coordination process through final sign-off, ensuring models are ready for construction execution.
  • Documentation & Communication
    • Document coordination decisions, updates, and project requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Participate in and support coordination meetings, including tracking and communicating action items.
    • Maintain organized project files and ensure up-to-date documentation across BIM platforms and tools.
  • Leadership & Resource Management
    • Support BIM Manager in driving coordination efforts and maintaining quality standards across multiple projects.
    • Manage workload across concurrent projects, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are consistently met.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Education & Credentials
    • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • Relevant BIM, CAD, or VDC certifications are a plus.
  • Experience
    • 3–5+ years of experience in BIM coordination within electrical construction or MEP environments.
    • Demonstrated experience developing and coordinating 3D models for commercial, industrial, or large-scale construction projects.
    • Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating across multiple stakeholders.
  • Technical & Professional Skills
    • Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction workflows, and coordination processes.
    • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks; familiarity with supporting BIM tools and platforms.
    • Ability to interpret and navigate design drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
    • Knowledge of detailing, prefabrication, and installation drawing development.
    • Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
    • Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and field teams.
